چکیده

The aim of this work was to analyse the response of NH4 + assimilation in leaves of tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Tennessee 86), to different B applications (B1, 5 M H3BO3; B2, 10 M H3BO3; B3, 20 M H3BO3). The plants were grown under controlled environmental conditions and received a complete nutrient solution. In this experiment, we analysed the foliar concentrations of B and NH4 , as well as the corresponding enzymatic activities: GS,GOGAT, GDH, PEPC; the end products of this assimilation, amino acids and proteins; and finally the concentration of non-structural sugars. Our results indicated that the different B treatments influenced the utilization of NH4 + by tobacco leaves. The B3 treatment registered the lowest NH4 + concentration, and B1 the highest, due probably to the higher GS, GOGAT and GDH activities registered at B3. Conversely, a decline in the concentration of non-structural sugars was recorded at B3. In addition, the high assimilation rate caused a progressive accumulation of amino acids as well as proteins, and boosted biomass production in the leaves. Abbreviations: ATP – adenosinetriphosphate, DW – dry weight, EDDHA – ethylenediamine-di(o-hydroxyphenylacetic acid), FW – fresh weight, GS – glutamine synthetase, GOGAT – glutamate synthase, GDH – glutamate dehydrogenase, PEPC – phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase

Biotechnological Reduction of Tobacco (Nicotiana Tabacum L.) Toxicity

BACKGROUND: Nicotiana tobacco contains large amounts of alkaloid nicotine. Tobacco plant is used for smoking and causes many health problems since it is high in nicotine which is one of the widely-recognized toxic compounds with serious side effects for different body organs. Reducing nicotine content of this plant is a way to reduce its health hazards in cigarette smokers. Utilizing the new ...

Preliminary studies on the influence of boron on the foliar biomass and quality of tobacco leaves subjected to fertilisation

The aim of the present work was to determine the in¯uence of different B dosages on foliar biomass and quality in tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum L var Tennesse 86). Tobacco plants were grown under controlled conditions and submitted to regular fertilisation with macro-and micro-nutrients. The B was applied to the nutrient solution in the form of H 3 BO 3 at 5 mM (B1), 10 mM (B2) and 20 mM (B...

بررسی تغییرات الگوی پروتئوم برگ گیاه توتون ).(Nicotiana tabacum L تحت تنش شوری با استفاده از الکتروفورز دوبعدی

In order to understand the response of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) to salt stress, the comparative analysis of leaf proteome of Basma S. 31 genotype were performed. Plants were treated with or without 200 mM NaCl for 12 days. The proteins were extracted from leaves, and then separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis. The fresh weight and length of shoot of studied genotype showed greater ...

Tobacco plants that lack expression of functional nitrate reductase in roots show changes in growth rates and metabolite accumulation.

When tobacco is provided with a high nitrate supply, only a small amount of the nitrate taken up by the roots is immediately assimilated inside the roots, while the majority is transported to the leaves where it is reduced to ammonium. To elucidate the importance of root nitrate assimilation, tobacco plants have been engineered that showed no detectable nitrate reductase activity in the roots. ...

Elevated sucrose-phosphate synthase activity in

Constitutive over-expression of a maize sucrosephosphate synthase (SPS) gene in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) had major effects on leaf carbohydrate budgets with consequences for whole plant development. Transgenic tobacco plants ̄owered earlier and had greater ̄ower numbers than wild-type plants. These changes were not linked to modi®ed source leaf carbon assimilation or carbon export, although ...
